1 – 1 1/2 cups Liquid – water or coconut water
1 – 2 cups Fruit (fresh or frozen)
Leafy Greens – These are the power players that protect and support every inch of our amazing bodies. You cannot get too many greens and cruciferous are KINGS. Start slow, (handful and a couple large leaves) if not used to having in your smoothies, but gradually add more and more until your blender is packed with a huge variety.
Fruits – Apples, berries, bananas, cherries, grapes, pears, lemons & limes (very alkalizing), mangoes, pineapple, oranges, etc Frozen fruit blends you find in the freezer section of your stores can save time, just check the label and make certain there is only fruit in the ingredients. Fruits are full of water, vitamins, minerals, phytonutrients and loads of fiber. Bananas and mangoes will add creaminess. Berries when mixed with greens will alter the color of your smoothies but don’t let that scare you or your children.
Greens– collards, watercress, romaine, green and red leaf lettuce, kale, chard, spinach, baby bok choy, arugula, etc.
Fresh green herbs – parsley (liver purifier), cilantro (heavy metal detoxifier), mint and wild plants such as dandelion (liver purifier). Just make certain those wild varieties you are harvesting haven’t been sprayed!
Smoothie additions – 1 teaspoon ginger root powder, 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder (both support healthy inflammatory response) 1 tablespoon ground flax (omega 3) . 1/4 tsp Cinnamon can also be added and helps to support blood sugar balance. If you have berries and they aren’t sweet enough, add 1 or 2 pitted dates. Also optional additions include Mushroom powders, Super Green powders (spirulina, chlorella, wheat grass, barley grass) per package instructions.
Chlorophyll- No life is possible without sunshine and no life is possible without chlorophyll – Chlorophyll is liquefied sun energy. Consuming as much chlorophyll as possible is like bathing our inner organs in sunshine. Leafy Greens! Greens are nutritional power houses that alkalize your blood! Blended foods are easier to assimilate which helps for the nutrients to be absorbed into your body and the fiber, which can only be found in plants, will cleanse, keep bowels moving and bring a big smile to your gut microbiome and immune system.
Blend until smooth. Use frozen fruit when possible so you won’t have to add any ice. Know one likes a warm or lukewarm smoothie! Drink immediately or store in glass jars in refrigerator for up to 3 days. Enjoy!
Using Organic ingredients can make a difference in our health and wellness. The good news is, you don’t have to be 100% to benefit. Environmental Working Group, EWG.Org, is a non-profit organization that watches out for us. Not only with food, but any household items, products, cosmetics, anything you can think of. On there website they have a Dirty Dozen/Clean Fifteen document that supplies guidance to twelve top produce items you will want to purchase organically when possible and fifteen that are safer to consume if conventionally grown.
