BASIC SMOOTHIE RECIPE – Use Organic Ingredients when possible and available.

1 to 1 1/2 cups liquid – water or coconut water 1 cup fruit (fresh or frozen)  – or 1 apple Leafy Greens – l to 2 leaves depending on the greens, their size, and your personal taste.

Fruits – Apples, berries, bananas, cherries, grapes, pears, lemons & limes (very alkalizing), mangoes, avocados, cucumbers, pineapple, etc  We are in spring so berries are starting to show up in the market.  Fruits are full of water, vitamins and minerals and loads of fiber but the fruit must be ripe or it could cause stomach aches.

Avocados, bananas, and mangos bring a smooth silkiness to your creations and healthy fats are important for us to feel satiated.  Greens– collards, watercress, romaine, green and red leaf lettuce, kale, chard, spinach, bok choy, arugula, beet greens, escarole, carrot tops (not just for our horses)etc.

Also included are fresh green herbs – parsley (liver purifier), cilantro (heavy metal detoxifier), mint and weeds such as dandelion (liver purifier) and you can add some additional nutritional punch by including fresh Sprouts in your smoothies.  (broccoli, clover, sunflower, alfalfa, etc)

Chlorophyll- No life is possible without sunshine and no life is possible without chlorophyll –  Chlorophyll is liquefied sun energy.  Consuming as much chlorophyll as possible is like bathing our inner organs in sunshine.

Leafy Greens!  Greens are nutritional power houses that alkalize your blood!  Blended foods are easier to assimilate which helps for the nutrients to be absorbed into your body and the fiber in these creations is incredibly beneficial.

Smoothie additions – if you are so inclined add fresh ginger root (teaspoon minced) anti-inflammatory, 1/4 cup walnuts (omega 3) almonds or 2 tbsp ground flax (omega 3) and/or a tablespoon of good quality coconut oil.  1/4 tsp Cinnamon can also be added and helps to regulate blood sugars.  If you have berries and they aren’t sweet enough, add pinch of stevia powder or 1 or 2 pitted dates.
