Autoimmune Disease-a condition arising from an abnormal immune response to a healthy part of the body.  It has been written over and over again in medical literature how the immune system goes rogue attacking itself but I believe its kinder and gentler to understand that there is something within our bodies, a pathogen, that our immune system is trying to protect us from.  This is how it was amazingly designed to function but sometimes our bodies lose balance.  The key to healing is finding the root cause of this immune response and making lifestyle adjustments that will enable the body to come back into balance, homeostasis.  This I learned from Anthony William, Medical Medium and author of numerous top selling books.

Their are over eighty autoimmune diseases including but not limited to MS, Lupus, Psoriasis, Pernicious Anemia, Hashimoto’s, IBS, Parkinsons, Chrohns, Graves, Celiac disease, Rheumatoid Arthritis.  70-80 million americans have been diagnosed with autoimmune conditions and over 150 million worldwide.

Top three triggers are allergens, microbes and toxins but we need to understand our lifestyle plays a role in this in-balance.  What this leads to is vitamin deficiency and malabsorption of nutrients due to gut permeability (leaky gut) which contributes to this excited inflammatory response.  Two thirds of our immune system is in the digestive system and food is either inflammatory or anti-inflammatory and the only thing that is neutral is clean water.  We need to focus on nutrient dense foods and avoid refined sugars, wheat, gluten and restore the gut to a healthy environment.  When in an inflamed state we do not want to add any fuel to the fire so we must become mindful of the food choices we make and listen to our bodies.  If you are suspicious of a food, do a trial elimination for 30 days.  Sometimes you can tell within days!  Some signs of a leaky gut are gas or bloating after meals, intolerance of eating fats, undigested food in bowel movements and multiple loose bowel movements (diarrhea) or constipation.

Microbiome or gut bacteria is also relative in autoimmune diseases.  Anything that destroys good gut bacteria can trigger an autoimmune response.  Antibiotics are being given to babies when they are born wiping out their microbiome or they have no microbiome being born through c-section.  Changes in our food supply, low fiber diets, high sugar, GMO foods (glyphosate), overuse of gut-busting antibiotics, anti-inflammatories, antacids, hormones, and steroids alter our gut microbiome and lead to imbalances.

We must drive the changes that need to be done with our lifestyle, environment and food supplies in order to heal.  I am here to tell you that it can be done.  Dietary changes seem like such a huge undertaking but when you or a loved one come back to life, you see that their was no sacrifice at all.
